New Sonic Drive-In Opens in San Diego Area

February 7th, 2017 by Fiedler Group

Fiedler Group is excited to announce the opening of a new Sonic Drive-In in the City of Pacific Beach (San Diego), California.

This location is part of a new development located at 2736 Garnet Avenue. The project was a combined effort with A1 Self Storage, who built a new facility on the rear portion of the property, behind the new Sonic restaurant.

The Sonic building is a 2,803 square foot drive-thru restaurant with one attached canopy covering seven in car car-hop parking spaces and seven uncovered in car car-hop parking spaces.

Sonic Restaurants is continuing to expand its unique quick-service restaurant (QSR) brand of fun and friendly sit-down dining and in-car carhop service that’s fast, convenient and a lot more fun than the typical fast-food place.

This project encountered unique challenges due to being located adjacent to Rose Creek that empties into the Pacific Ocean approximately three miles away.

Existing site topography required that the development use the Creek for the storm water runoff.

This required working closely with local agencies to obtain all required approvals and meet the strict water quality treatment standards to make sure storm water run-off was treated prior to entering the Creek.

Fiedler Group was responsible for the architectural, civil, MEP and landscape design of the Sonic Drive-In, the implementation of the owner selected interior décor package, coordination with the A1 Self Storage design team, and obtaining entitlement approval and all construction related permitting through the City of San Diego to build the restaurant.

The contractor for this project was Alfredo Annino Construction, Inc. based in Studio City, California.
