INNOVATING CLEAN FUEL SOLUTIONS: CHEVRON/WAYNE PERRY’S CNG FUELING SYSTEM IN SANTA MARIA
December 20th, 2024 by Fiedler Group
The Chevron station located at 1155 E Betteravia Road, Santa Maria site, is the newest project where innovation meets sustainability with the recent installation of a cutting-edge Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) fueling system. This project lead by Wayne Perry, Inc. and engineered and permitted by Fiedler Group highlights the commitment to advancing clean energy solutions and providing infrastructure to support heavy-duty vehicles (HDVs).
TRANSFORMING THE SITE WITH ADVANCED INFRASTRUCTURE
Wayne Perry completed site construction services on September 30, 2024, introducing several transformative elements that enhanced the site’s functionality and sustainability. The installation featured a high-tech compression system comprising advanced compressors, a cascade storage system, and a matrix panel to ensure efficient fuel delivery. Accessibility and functionality were improved with the addition of two CNG dispensers, strategically placed on extensions of the existing HDV fueling islands. A purpose-built CNG compound was created to house all critical compression components, while a new natural gas supply line was installed to guarantee a consistent and reliable gas supply. Additionally, the site’s landscaping was restored and enhanced, seamlessly blending environmental stewardship with compliance to the historical conditions of approval.
OVERCOMING UNIQUE CHALLENGES
Projects often encounter hurdles and challenges, and this one was no exception. However, the challenges presented opportunities to innovate and adapt. One significant challenge was the restoration of historical landscaping, as the property’s original 1964 conditions of approval required creative design and sourcing solutions. Fiedler Group addressed this by developing a landscaping plan that successfully balanced historical accuracy with modern sustainability. Additionally, routing the CNG supply lines proved difficult due to the presence of existing underground storage tanks (USTs) and other infrastructure. This challenge was overcome with innovative routing techniques that enabled seamless integration without compromising functionality.
