Advantages of REVIT and Building Information Models (BIM)
May 7th, 2013 by Fiedler Group
Autodesk Revit recently released the latest version of Revit Architecture / Structure / MEP 2013. Initially released in 2000 as Revit version 1.0, Revit has become the premier Building Information Modeling (BIM) software for progressive architects and engineers.
By utilizing three-dimensional, real time, dynamic building modeling software such as Revit, the designer is provided the opportunity to design a building and its components in 3D, annotate the model with 2D drafting elements, and access building information from the building model database.
Revit’s 4D capabilities allow for planning and tracking stages of a building’s lifecycle and material quantity calculations.
When the designer uses Revit as an initial design tool, the 3-D massing of a building can be quickly developed and understood.
As the building design process continues, the model can be adjusted as necessary to incorporate design refinements that clients or cities may request. As the building model is revised, the entire drawing package is also updated which eliminates coordination drafting errors.
Revit has become the standard for building design — speeding up the development of the overall model and enhances the accuracy of the final product.
Fiedler Group utilizes Revit both for architectural and mechanical and plumbing design – reducing potential coordination conflicts between building elements and mechanical and plumbing lines, and the overall quality of the design deliverable to our clients is greatly enhanced.
