Rincon Band of Luiseno Indians Travel Plaza

August 7th, 2012 by Fiedler Group

On July 23, 2012 the Rincon Band of Luiseno Indians opened a new travel plaza including a 7-Eleven convenience store, Shell branded gas station, tribal-owned car wash, and Subway restaurant on its sovereign land next to its Harrah’s Rincon Resort & Casino.

Built at a cost of approximately $3 million, the 4,000 square-foot complex is found on a one-and-a-quarter quarter acre site (33470 Valley Center Road, Valley Center, California 92082), south of the Valley Center-based casino.

It is expected to provide convenient services to casino customers and residents in the area, said Jim Murguia, chairman of the tribe’s economic development corporation.

“The tribal council looked at a number of commercial opportunities but wanted to invest in a business enterprise that complimented and supplemented services in the region and at the same time would add a new level of customer service to our visitors and resort guests,” Murguia said.

He continued, “Owning and operating our own businesses allows the tribe to institute management and employee training and job options for tribal members and our neighbors.”

Fiedler Group provided the architectural, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, civil and landscape design services associated the convenience store, fuel system, and car wash.

Facility design required coordination with tribal leaders, 7-Eleven, and the adjacent casino to ensure the building’s design harmonized with the existing casino architecture.
