World’s Largest Hydrogen Electrolyser Fueling Station Awarded to Nel
October 25th, 2017 by Fiedler Group
ProtonOnsite (Proton) and Nel Hydrogen Solutions, divisions of Nel ASA, have announced they have received a purchase order for the world’s largest combined hydrogen production and fueling facility.
The $8.3 million order is for a combined hydrogen Proton PEM M400 electrolyser and two Nel H2Station® fueling units for California based SunLine Transit Agency. The design solution, which is expected to be delivered and installed in 2018, will have a hydrogen capacity of up to 900kg/day.
Commenting on the new contract, Jon André Løkke, CEO of Nel declared “We are very pleased being awarded this contract to deliver a turnkey hydrogen production and fueling solution to SunLine that will provide zero-emission public transportation for the Palm Springs area and contribute to California’s climate efforts. This delivery highlights the combined strengths of Proton and Nel, using cutting-edge technology both within PEM electrolysis and heavy duty fueling solutions for busses.”
Løkke further noted “The project is strategically important for Nel and Proton, as it shows our joint capability in delivering unparalleled hydrogen production and fueling solutions. The combined organization is well-positioned to be part of current and future initiatives needed to achieve California’s long-term renewable energy goals”.
Formed in 1971, SunLine Transit Agency operates California’s Coachella Valley’s public transportation system. Providing public services to approximately 4.82 million riders, SunLine Transit Agency vehicles travel more than 4 million miles per year throughout its 1,120 mile-service area. SunLine Transit Agency offers compressed natural gas and hydrogen through SunFuels alternative fueling stations.
SunLine will use the Nel ASA solution for fueling of their growing fleet of Fuel Cell Electric Buses.
The project is supported by the Californian Air Resources Board (CARB) under the California Climate Investments (CCI) program.
