UK Holiday Inn Constructed of Shipping Containers
August 1st, 2017 by Fiedler Group
Purpose built shipping containers brought over from China were used in the construction of a modular 220-room modern Holiday Inn Express in Trafford City, Manchester, UK.
The shipping containers come with full height windows, carpet, wallpaper, ceiling and light fittings all of which were installed before being delivered to site. Additionally, the rooms have full height windows and are fully furnished before leaving the factory. They weigh about 20 tons each and are stacked with all the rooms installed over a period of up to four weeks. Once the containers are in place the building will be given an external finish to make it look more appealing.
The chain hotel at Trafford City is being operated by Tower Hotel Management, part of the Peel Group. Chapman Taylor is the architect and Bowmer & Kirkland is the contractor.
In recent years shipping containers have been utilized by different companies, in multiple applications. Including Starbucks, which refer to them as “Reclamation Drive-thru Shipping Container Stores.”
