Potential Praxair and Linde AG Merger May Create World’s Largest Gas Supplier

September 6th, 2016 by Fiedler Group

In a deal that may create the world’s largest industrial-gas supplier, Praxair Inc. is in discussions to merge with Linde AG.

Still, even if both companies agree to the deal, anti-trust regulators still may not approve it as both companies are worth as much as $30-billion, each.

News of the deal boosted Linde’s stock price 7 percent in late August.

The catalyst for the deal may be a result of the companies’ biggest rivals consolidating in May, when Air Liquide SA bought Airgas Inc. for approximately $10-billion.

The merged Linde and Praxair company would take the number one position from Air Liquid by creating a company with more than $30 billion in revenue.

Both Praxair and Linde have seen its shares underperform the S&P 500 in recent years.
