NRG Energy Opens Electric Charging Stations at Orange County Simon Shopping Centers

NRG Energy, Inc. recently announced the opening of new electric vehicle fast-charging Freedom Station sites in Orange County, California.
The NRG eVgo electric charging sites, located in four Orange County-area shopping centers — The shops at Mission Viejo, Brea Mall, Westminster Mall, and The Outlets at Orange — are capable of recharging a shopper’s vehicle in 30 minutes or less and represent the largest fast charge network in Orange County.
The Orange County network of stations also connect San Diego to Los Angeles and Venture along the NRG eVgo network — making electric vehicles a feasible alternative for Californians.
Ron Hanson, Vice President of Operational Efficiency for Simon shopping centers commented, “Our growing network of state-of-the-art electric vehicle charging stations at our shopping centers shows our commitment to delivering a more sustainable shopping experience that is also convenient for our customers.”
The eVgro Freedom Station sites will support both current and future electric charging technologies, regardless of the make and model of electric vehicle they choose to drive.
The charging sites support direct current (DC) fast charging in addition to standard alternating current (AC) Level 2 charging, with an upgrade option to a SAE Combo charger, as more electric vehicles are available.
Other electric vehicle charging networks are being built throughout the San Francisco, San Joaquin, Los Angeles, and San Diego areas.
