The National Association of Convenience Stores (NACS) recently released new, in-depth statistics and trends for the convenience store industry.
The facts and figures detail valuable information about the convenience market industry’s top-selling products and services.
Findings include:
- The convenience store industry in the United States represents over 154,000 locations and $575-billion in sales
- The number of convenience stores in the nation (154,195) is a 0.9% increase over the number of stores recorded in 2014
- Of those convenient stores, there are over 124,000 locations also selling fuel
- Those 124,000 locations sell an estimated 80 percent of all fuel sold in the United States
- How much business do convenience stores do? The convenience and fuel retail industries paid $10-billion in credit card fees in 2015
- These credit card fees are second only to labor costs when considering store-level expenses
- Similar to fuel sales, nearly 80 percent of convenience stores sell beer, representing more than 30 percent of all beer purchased in the United States
- Are you feeling lucky? Convenience stores sell approximately 50 percent of all lottery tickets sold in the United States
