GasBuddy and Cuebiq Share 2017 Convenience Store and Gas Stations Customer Behavior Findings
February 20th, 2018 by Fiedler Group
In an effort to understand foot traffic trends last year, GasBuddy and Cuebiq worked together to analyze location visit data at more than 100 fuel and convenience store brands across the United States. The completed study provides insight into customer behaviors and identifies the impact of key factors such as the customer experience and ratings.
GasBuddy, a smartphone app connected to a reported 70 million drivers, and Cuebiq, a leading location intelligence and measurement company, released their latest study which was based on analysis of the foot traffic of nearly 121 million GasBuddy consumers to convenience stores and gas stations throughout the U.S.
Highlights of the study include:
- A strong correlation was noted between overnight foot traffic and the quality of forecourt lighting. Stations near interstates with above-average outdoor lighting ratings experienced a 50% increase in foot traffic during the hours of 9:00pm to 5:00am, versus those establishments with below-average light ratings.
- Consumer visits to service stations and convenience stores increased over 5% over the previous year.
- The study revealed that busiest foot traffic time of day is Friday at 12:00pm. Overall lunch hours were the busiest during the work week, and the morning commute hours were slower.
- McDonald’s was found to be the favorite QSR in 2017, edging out Subway, while Starbucks topped Dunkin’ Donuts in the coffee shop comparison.
