Compressed Natural Gas Expected to Fuel 40 Percent of Vehicles
February 2nd, 2016 by Fiedler Group
Experts expect 40 percent of vehicles to be natural gas powered in less than 10 years.
According to projections by Detief Hallermann, Ph.D., associate clinical professor at Texas A&M University, compressed natural gas (CNG) is expected to grow in its adoption throughout the United States.
While the U.S. has seen a significant increase in natural gas finds, eventually, the nation will be in a position to leverage much of this natural gas domestically — in new manufacturing, heating, cooling, as well as vehicles.
According to Hallermann, the United States has seen a shift — whereas in 2008, the country was a net importer of propane and compressed natural gas, in 2015, the country was exporting six times what it was importing earlier.
And while natural gas highways are being developed, Hallermann suggests that local delivery fleets, taxis, and government vehicles will be among the first to adopt CNG, due to their home-based refueling infrastructure.
