Expanding Fueling Horizons: SC Fuels Introduces New Cardlock Facility in California

SC Fuels recently announced the addition of a new fueling facility providing unrestricted access to private and the public heavy duty vehicle operators, trucks and passenger vehicles. This facility situated at the Irwindale Gateway, 1200 Arrow Highway, southeast corner of Arrow Highway and Live Oak Avenue in the City of Irwindale, is set to become a critical resource for the transportation industry in the region by offering an extensive selection of fuels, including: Diesel, Biodiesel, Red diesel, E-85 Gasoline. State-of-the-Art Infrastructure
The scope of work for the new Cardlock facility included significant construction and infrastructure developments:
• Fueling Canopy: One new 129’-0” X 42’-0” canopy sheltering 14 dispensers, features a combination of multi-product and single-product options, as well as five DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) dispensers.
• CMU Enclosure: One 42’-0” X 23’-4” concrete masonry unit (CMU) enclosure, equipped with metal screening gates, houses an electrical equipment control room, aboveground storage tanks, and a trash enclosure area.
• Underground Storage Tanks: The installation of underground storage tanks to ensure a reliable and efficient fuel supply.
• Additional Site Improvements: Various landscape, drainage, and site improvements were implemented to enhance the functionality and aesthetics of the facility.
Overcoming Challenges
The development of this facility was not without its challenges. Notably, two significant hurdles were successfully overcome by Fiedler Group in helping to deliver this project:
Redesigning the Equipment Enclosure: During the construction process, a Southern California Edison (SCE) guy wire was discovered within the proposed footprint of the equipment enclosure area. This unexpected obstacle required a complete redesign of the enclosure to accommodate the existing infrastructure without compromising the facility’s functionality.
Planning Approval: Securing planning approval for the redesigned enclosure area presented its own set of challenges. The project team had to navigate complex regulations and ensure that all required setbacks were met. Through diligent planning and collaboration with local authorities, the necessary approvals were obtained, allowing the project to proceed without significant delays.
