Technical White Paper Identifies Solution to Address Global Climate Change Goals

A new technical white paper explores the need to begin deploying zero-emission and near-zero-emission heavy-duty vehicle technologies in the United States.

Written on behalf of both private and public sector organizations (including Clean Energy Fuels as a sponsor), the white paper was penned by Gladstein Neandross & Associates (GNA).

The paper finds that near-zero emission natural gas engines immediately address air quality and climate protection goals, using commercially proven and affordable strategies.

With approximately 166 million Americans already living in areas identified with exceedingly poor air quality, coupled with the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from heavy-duty vehicles (HDVs), climate change is a powerful global issue.

After comparing four fuel-technology combinations, the white paper concludes that near-zero-emission heavy-duty natural gas vehicles are the only pathway that meets the commercial feasibility and logistics tests to immediately address these concerns.
