ExxonMobil Projects Role of World’s Energy Sources
February 23rd, 2016 by Fiedler Group
ExxonMobil has released “The Outlook for Energy” report detailing its long-term forecast for the world’s energy sources.
While the world’s population is expected to increase by 2 billion people, ExxonMobil expects energy efficiency to improve and increased use of renewable energy sources will help reduce the impact of carbon on the global economy.
By the year 2040, the global brand’s report predicts nuclear and renewable energy sources to make up 25 percent of global supplies, with oil and natural gas making up the remaining portions.
Interestingly, despite the emergency of attractive, new automobiles like Tesla, ExxonMobil expects global energy demand from transportation to increase by 30 percent, despite sales of hybrids to jump to 40 percent of new-car sales in the year 2040.
Parallel to other industry developments, ExxonMobil also foresees North America transitioning to a net exporter role of oil by the year 2020 — a vast change after decades of being an importer.
