California’s “Drive the Dream” Campaign Secures Major Commitments Supporting Electric Vehicles

Last month marked the launch of the state of California’s “Drive the Dream 2015” plug-in electric vehicle campaign.
Together with Governor Jerry Brown, automakers, public utility companies, government agencies, and over 40 corporate leaders gathered in Los Angeles to promote the investments and commitments taking place to promote plug-in electric vehicles within the workplace environment.
The investment alone in workplace charging demonstrates a commitment to both employers and California residents to further the adoption of electric vehicles.
The objective of the campaign is to expand the number of workplace charging stations, purchase additional electric vehicles for corporate fleets, and increase the value of the employee incentive program — which in turn improves the state’s economy, air quality, and simultaneously reduces the state’s dependency on oil.
Among the largest corporate orders announced at the event was the Department of the Navy’s plans to lease more than 450 electric vehicles, which will replace traditional gas-powered vehicles at Navy and Marine Corps bases in California.
Other large corporate participants — American Honda and Ford — will be adding new electric vehicle chargers at its facilities, while major electric power utility companies (including San Diego Gas and Electric, PG&E, Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, and Southern California Edison) committed their own support to supporting electric vehicles and their infrastructures.
