Family Dollar & Dollar Tree Finalize Proposed Merger
July 14th, 2015 by Fiedler Group
Following a hostile takeover bid by Dollar General, Dollar Tree and Family Dollar have agreed to sell 330 Family Dollar stores in order to finalize their proposed merger.
The sale of the stores to Sycamore Partners was conducted to eliminate any anti-competitive practices brought about by the merger, thus ensuring consumers will still benefit from local dollar store competition.
Family Dollar first agreed to the Dollar Tree merger in Summer 2014 for $8.5 billion. Shortly thereafter, the larger Dollar General company responded with a $9.1 billion bid for Family Dollar.
While Family Dollar initially argued that a Dollar Tree deal would result in selling off up to 4,500 stores, others questioned if regulators would approve a higher takeover bid.
Fiedler Group has designed and permitted three Family Dollar locations in the North Carolina-based discount store network, with locations in Westmorland, Colton, and San Bernardino.
